A Floral Path to Serenity - Bach Flower Remedies for Anxiety and Depression. BLOG #3: Uncertainty.

Anxiety is something we all experience in life, and I hear about it frequently from my clients, especially during this challenging time.

Building on my previous blog regarding the primary emotions that contribute to anxiety, in this blog I will address scenarios in which anxiety is triggered by uncertainty and doubt.

As previously mentioned, anxiety is often a symptom of deeper emotional imbalances that make us uncomfortable, leading to anxiety. If you’re using Bach Flower Remedies for self-help, similar to what we discussed for fears, let’s start by asking ourselves questions to identify anxiety triggers and the primary emotions behind them.

We can ask ourselves some of the following questions:

In which situations do I feel anxious?

Is there a specific trigger for my anxiety?

Why do I feel anxious? (Is it due to fears, worries, or other negative emotions?)

How does it feels when anxiety stems from uncertainty and doubts?

Let’s consider this example: do you ever find it hard to make a decision? You feel like you've made up your mind and know what you want, but when it's time to take action, you doubt your judgment, feel anxious about making the right choice, and start seeking opinions from friends and family? This uncertainty arises from doubting your instincts and your ability to make the right choice. It generates tension and anxiety, especially during pivotal moments in life when we need to make life-changing decisions. Collecting opinions can sometimes lead to more confusion, resulting in choices that aren't right for us. If you've ever found yourself regretting, thinking, “I knew I shouldn’t have listened to them,” or “I should have trusted my gut,” you may have gone through an anxious process associated with a negative Cerato state.

Cerato, which Dr. Bach included in the uncertainty group, helps us reconnect with our instincts and intuitions. It encourages us to trust ourselves, so when we face a choice, we can confidently identify the best decision without overthinking. This approach addresses anxiety at its root, as Bach Flower Remedies treat causes rather than just effects.

With this in mind, let’s explore some prompts:

I feel anxious because…

  • I can’t make up my mind between two options.

  • Every time I have to make a choice, I am filled with doubts, I don’t trust my judgment.

  • I feel tired and worry I can get all things done and tend to procrastinate, leading to anxiety because I have wasted time and am falling behind my schedule.

  • I feel like I’m at a crossroads in life and don’t know which way to go.

  • I’ve experienced setbacks and disappointments, and I’m unsure things will turn out well.

  • Things didn’t go as I wanted or expected; I’ve been worried sick and now feel like I’ve lost hope and am ready to give up.

Here below is a summary of these triggers and the appropriate remedies:

Of course, this table is just a synthesis; there is much more to explore. The goal is to provide you with a general idea of how anxiety can be addressed at its roots, allowing us to live a more balanced life.

As always, if you’re starting to use Bach Flowers for self-help, don’t worry about selecting the wrong remedy. Taking it won’t harm you; it just may not be effective. If it doesn’t resonate, you can always return to your feelings and try another remedy without any consequences.
